In 2022, Michelle Ahern was a wife and a step-mum living on the east coast of Australia. It’s now the summer of 2024 and she is a very single stand-up comedian living alone in Spain. “WTF happened and why is someone trying to sue her?” is the tagline for Michelle’s debut solo show, We’ve Had A Good Run. The one-hour comedic storytelling show chronicles the past two years of Michelle’s life, starting with the life-changing discovery of her husband’s affair that led her across the globe to Spain and into the arms of a life of comedy.
It’s a tale as old as time—trauma leads to creativity. Michelle’s story is no exception as she attributes comedy as the life raft that saved her. Losing her marriage, home, and step-daughter in a matter of what seemed like moments, Michelle left Australia in August 2022 determined to build a new life for herself, and even more determined to reclaim her voice by telling the story of the events unfolding in her life.
Travelling across Europe, Michelle encountered wild adventures and colourful new characters, which she documented and started folding into the story she had started writing. In November 2022, she enrolled in a stand-up comedy course in London and completed her first five-minute comedy set. Michelle fell instantly in love with comedic storytelling, so she quickly set her sights on a stage that was big, but not impossible: the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
We’ve Had A Good Run is the culmination of 18 months of writing, performing, and learning comedy. The story is a little bit mad, sometimes heart-breaking, but wildly funny and silly (cue sock puppets)! Don’t miss this high-octane Aussie as she swings her soup ladle onto the stage at The Comedy Clubhouse this Saturday July 20th at 13:30 in one of her final Fringe preview performances before she hits the stage she’s been running toward.
