Michelle Ahern took the Barcelona comedy scene by storm when she came in as a newbie comic with a mission: to tell the story of the day her life fell apart. You wouldn’t exactly expect a show like this to kick off with a mad Aussie woman swinging a ladle and dancing down the aisle to the stage, but then again Michelle didn’t expect her husband of seven years to leave her for another woman. Her unexpected entrance is fitting for her show, We’ve Had a Good Run, that constantly keeps you on your toes—it’s not just your quintessential story of a lurid affair and a woman scorned.
Michelle transports the audience back in time to when a handsome stranger came into her life and eventually became her husband, setting the scene of seven wonderful years of marriage, until one day, it all came crashing down. When Michelle’s husband reveals he’s been having an affair, she begs the question, “Do I still have a marriage?” Through sock puppets, song, and spoken word poetry, Michelle brings her characters to life onstage. She shares what it’s like to be left by the one you love while losing a stepdaughter in the process.
Audiences at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival will become enamored with Michelle’s vulnerability and will enjoy watching her heal in real-time, right on the stage. You’ll laugh and cry as Michelle masterfully creates and breaks tension through skillful crowdwork and storytelling.
Get ready for a rollercoaster ride of emotion and buckle up for a “stirring true story” as Michelle finds herself and gets reacquainted with intimacy, one throuple at a time. One thing’s for sure: when her ex-husband watches this, he’ll be kicking himself for ever having left in the first place.
We’ve Had a Good Run is on from Aug. 12–25 with Laughing Horse @ Eastside in The Den daily at 15:20.
Absolutely loved this show, how to turn a negative into a positive, Michelle is a very funny lady.
