Andy Casper Says Our Innermost Thoughts Out Loud in ‘Gremlin Head’

Andy Casper’s Gremlin Head first came to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2023 as a Work-in-Progress, and after a year of positive audience reviews, it’s about time the industry pays attention to him. A skilled writer and performer, Andy’s every word and moment throughout Gremlin Head is crafted in the service of humor despite its somewhat serious content.

The title of the show is a representation of the intrusive thoughts in Andy’s head caused by Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Throughout Gremlin Head, Andy shares how these thoughts can range from just plain silly to outright dangerous, while demonstrating the positives of OCD through his unique sense of humor. Andy is one of those comedians you watch and think, “I just want to go inside of his brain and read it like a book!”

He’s able to make connections many of us would never think of while showing the non-OCD folks in the room how ruminating can lead down a rabbit hole no one wants to go down. But like Alice in Wonderland, Andy often jumps headfirst into his rabbit holes, exploring the unexplored, guided by his curiosity and surprise, and first and foremost, leading with emotion.

Whether ashamed by his intrusive thoughts or infuriated by the world around him, Andy’s journey as an English millennial with OCD living in Barcelona has created a whole host of comedic situations well worth listening to. And after it’s over, it may be worth asking yourself, “Am I doing what I want? Or is it just the Gremlin inside of my head?”

Gremlin Head runs at the Edinburgh Fringe until Aug. 14 with Laughing Horse @ The Brass Monkey at 12:45.
