Andy Casper’s Bone Man Rides Again is here! A leader of Barcelona’s alternative comedy scene, Andy Casper has been sharing his love of clown with the Barcelona community for years. After studying with acclaimed clown and Britain’s Got Talent winner Viggo Venn, Andy returned to Barcelona with a passion for the art form. Through years of trial and error, he ultimately crafted the character, Bone Man, thanks to a costume he had lying around.
Wearing a black unitard of bones with a painted ghastly face, Andy addresses the audience, “I. Am. Bone Man.” He carries a simple paper bag onstage. Those are the only two constants in the show — the rest is based on the audience. He’s a clown first and foremost, and he knows how to play games with the crowd.
By taking a character who might otherwise seem scary and making him humble, insecure, and naive instead, the audience warms to Bone Man’s authentic persona. Bone Man also finds the funny funny, the scary scary, and the sad sad. Bone Man feels deeply. Bone Man questions the confusing and invites the audience to do the same.
Like many clown-centric shows, there is an element of audience participation, but Bone Man is always very respectful towards his audience members, pushing them to their limits without passing any boundaries, bringing in elements of literature, theater, music, sports, and other ways of connecting with people. But of course, one of Bone Man’s highlights comes in his sometimes final segment of the show — the Q&A. Without giving too much away, all we’ll say is that Andy was able to brilliantly craft a character who captures his inner child while reminding us of our own.
